This poem literally makes the hairs on my arms stand up, it’s soo moving, it’s such a strong and emotional piece. I got to first hear it live earlier in the year at an event, and you could feel the crowd focusing on every word that was spoken, emphasising with the character, relating to the situation, causing tears to flow among the crowd. And now Suli Breaks has released it as his first official video for his new album.

Suli is well known for his views on education, and I love his pieces on that - but within this piece he digs deeper and confronts an area that is very personal and unlike his previous body of work. The mission of this poem is to end hate crime, using Islamphobia as an example to depict the level of hate that circles around this world. There are so many elements to this piece my heart gravitates to, its hard to pinpoint what part I love most; “Allah know’s she’s beautiful, even though the clothes she wears makes her look unusual”. What is usual in this world? Its wrong to persecute and people on what they believe and who they choose to be if it is not harming anyone, but the harsh reality is that people in this world do. Suli sheds light on this, in a beautiful and sensitive manner, directing people to rethink the way they view people who do not look like what they are a custom too.

Suli is one of my huge inspirations for soo many reasons, he pushed me to chase what I love even when I didn’t push myself. I’m excited to hear what is in store for his new album and the amazing journey he has ahead.
