Lupus | Lionheart

He went there - delving into an illness that many struggle to explain. The way in which Lionheart depicts the condition of Lupus through his words is very intriguing, and I feel it is an amazing way to build awareness of this disease, as it is often not spoken about.

Before hearing this poem I was aware of this disease, but never really looked into it. What inspires me about this piece is how Lionheart uses his gift of spoken word to shed light on it, and expose it to his audience - (making me personally want to know more)

Within the poem he cleverly uses facts about the disease, and connects it to an emotion so that it is personified When your body’s not playing black on black crime, with white blood cells”, driving the listener to feel the pain through his words. It is truly a talent, when someone can use their words to make you crave to want to know more on a subject, and that is why this piece inspires me.

Let It Be | Owanari Briggs (Feat.First Lady)

Owanari Briggs and First Lady come together to produce this captivating piece, that really just gives you the underlying truth about the gospel, which is to trust God and Let it be. This is a track from Owanari Briggs debut EP “Milk & Honey” https://owanaribriggs.bandcamp.com/album/milk-honey

What enticed me about this piece is how this collab clearly positions the Gospel in a cool and current manner. Forming words into metaphors to illustrate why believing and following Jesus way is so impactful in their lives. I love coming across lyricists who know how to take stories from the bible and use its meaning to share the gospel in a artistic and unique fashion, Owanari does this wonderfully with this piece and it is truly a piece that inspires and excites me.

The Guns Talk too Much | Rae Levine (Rae Poet)

I was very blessed to have the chance to hear this spoken word piece a couple months back at an open mic event in London. Rae Levine known as @RaePoet tackles the issue of police brutality, that has fed the trending topic #BlackLivesMatter . What truly inspires me about this particular poem, is how Rae Levine uses thought provoking words to put you into a position where you can sympathise with the victims, but also make the listener (myself) identify as the victim. Personalising the gun “the gun talks too much” placing it as the role as the killer, perfectly shows how the misuse and abuse of it, is disrupting lives and which is not necessarily.

My favourite line in this piece is “400 people have been killed in the last 6 months alone, that's 400 Kings & Queens that never got to reach their thrones”. Black lives are being killed because certain individuals in the police force (not all but there are a collective), are not putting a value beside them - and this is a serious issue within America specifically, but also a theme across the world that needs a change. This poem cleverly highlights this issue, and I’m inspired how Rae Levine uses her talents to ignite a change in people.

Rhema Arts UK | Launch Event | 10th September

I am really excited to be part of the event for Rhema Arts UK launch show on the 10th September. The unique aspect about this show lies within its vision, its key purpose is to fill a void in the form of entertainment. Using its platform to support Christian creatives in the UK, giving them a stage to inspire people to also use their gifts and spread the gospel.

Rhema inspired by the Bible verse 1 Corinthians 12:7 “... a gift is given to each of us to help each other”

I’ll be on the stage performing a group poetry piece - the first group poem I have ever worked on. It has been a great experience, and I really feel it has helped me in new depts for my creativity. Just the process alone has got me thinking of new pieces. Can’t wait to perform :D I’ll be performing with @NizamSpeaks @Che_kirah @SaBelleAm3

If you want to find out more on the event and the Rhema Arts Movement check out their page on www.RhemaArts.uk PLUS :D the show will be BSL interpreted.
